What are CPV codes?

The Common Procurement Vocabulary (CPV) is the EU's classification of everything public buyers purchase, from office cleaning to road construction. Every tender published on TED carries at least one CPV code.

Codes have eight digits plus a check digit. The first two digits are the division, for example 72 for IT services; each further digit narrows it down, so 72260000 means software-related services.

Search with the shortest code that still describes your work. Buyers often pick a broad code, so 7226 finds more relevant tenders than one exact eight-digit code.

Most companies need three to ten codes: one for each product or service line, plus the broader division they belong to.
