Im Bereich zwischen dem Südportal des bestehenden Tunnels Giswil und dem neuen Tunnel Kaiserstuhl (separate, bereits erfolgte Vergabe als Baulos 19) wird die Strasseninfrastruktur erweitert, damit künftig National- und Kantonsstrasse getrennt über zwei separate Trassees geführt werden können. Das heutige Trassee der Brünigstrasse verläuft über die bestehende Buochholzbrücke, am OWi-Land vorbei zum Lungerersee.
