An der Hans-Sommer-Straße wird der Neubau für Institute der Physik mit einer Nutzfläche (NUF 1-6) von ca. 4800 m² errichtet. In dem viergeschossigem Gebäude ist die Hälfte der Fläche für Labore, Mess- und Wägeräume vorgesehen, die sich im nördlichen Gebäudeteil befinden. Weitere Nutzflächen sind Büroflächen sowie Seminarräume und Hörsäle. Ein Foyer, das die Geschossebenen über einen Luftraum miteinander verbindet, dienst als Haupterschließung.
