De neonatale hielprikscreening (NHS) is een landelijk screeningsprogramma dat wordt uitgevoerd bij pasgeborenen in de eerste week na de geboorte. In Nederland (Europees en Caribisch Nederland) krijgen jaarlijks ca. 170.000 pasgeborenen de hielprik. De hielprikscreening is het langstlopende landelijke screeningsprogramma in de publieke gezondheidszorg. De analyse van het hielprikbloed levert op dit moment belangrijke informatie op over zevenentwintig zeldzame, vaak erfelijke, ernstige aandoeningen.
